8th Grade

 

The eighth grade students will learn skills appropriate for conducting an interview. Students will learn what questions to ask while interviewing someone,and How to approach someone they want to interview. Students will work in groups of two to create an interview with a famous person of their choice. Students will collaboratively write or type out their interview questions first as the interviewer.  Students will use the internet to research the famous person to gather information of  that person history. Once students have finished the script they will type it into the website http://www.xtranormal.com to make their interview become real. Students will be able to type in a script, choose characters that best match the ones they picked for their interview, pick camera angles, gestures and motions for each character. When completed the design process students will turn their interview into a real life video.

 

 I will be reviewing and progressing to build students skills for touch typing. My primary goal is to help students understand the importance of being able to word process without looking at the keyboard. Skills and activities we will be working on include the following:

Touch Typing: Students will be able to identify the home Row and which fingers are designated to each key of the home row. We will be covering up the keyboards with a keyboard skin that blacks out the letters on the keyboard, so that if the students try to look down towards the keyboard the will be unable to see the letters . Students will use various keyboarding websites to work  on proper keyboarding techniques. Websites we will be using include Dance Mat Typing  http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/ ,  various typing games on  www.freetypinggame.net , www.typingtest.com and other educational sites that will be posted in the student portal section of this website.

 

Coding- Students will take their previous knowledge of coding and their logical thinking and use it to code in other computer languages.
